The Role of Youth in Climate Activism 青年在气候行动中的作用

Perhaps we have all seen the famous Greta Thunberg speeches, activism movements, and the change she has made in this world. Youth are the change-makers of tomorrow. They play a major role in decision-making for policies and what the world does with current social issues. Yes, climate change is such a cliche issue--everything is quite cliche nowadays because well, its 2024. However, we cannot forget that it is because this issue is important and needs solutions that needs to be implemented immediately that they are being talked about so much and being emphasized so much.

也许我们都看过著名的格蕾塔·桑伯格的演讲、激进主义运动，以及她给这个世界带来的改变。青年是明天的变革者。他们在政策决策以及世界如何处理当前社会问题方面发挥着重要作用。是的，气候变化是一个陈词滥调的问题——现在一切都很陈词滥调，因为现在是 2024 年。然而，我们不能忘记，正是因为这个问题很重要，需要立即实施的解决方案，所以才被谈论这么多并且被如此强调。

So what are youth even doing? Surely, if they are passionate on sustainability they would start a sustainability club in their school and grow all kinds of plants to increase biodiversity, but what is the point of doing so when all they can make a change in is their school? Well, without the awareness of climate issues that can be greatly spread in a school environment, perhaps no one would even understand the urgency. And plus, change happens from small to big. People can always start small, and when everyone around them understand the urgency of the issue and also start acting on the issue with them, change can be made. It is the small but consistent actions that can help take off larger actions.

那么年轻人到底在做什么呢？当然，如果他们对可持续发展充满热情，他们会在学校成立可持续发展俱乐部并种植各种植物以增加生物多样性，但当他们能做出改变的只是学校时，这样做有什么意义呢？好吧，如果没有意识到气候问题可以在学校环境中广泛传播，也许没有人会理解紧迫性。而且，变化是从小到大发生的。人们总是可以从小事做起，当周围的每个人都了解问题的紧迫性并开始与他们一起解决问题时，就可以做出改变。小而持续的行动可以帮助采取更大的行动。

This is also the philosophy of Eco Up--promoting small and consistent actions that can help the formation and implementation of larger-scaled actions that will be able to make the so-called "major" difference to the planet. Sure, even if the world goes vegan and re-wild the land that have been originally used for livestock agriculture climate change will not be completely solved, but hey, we can't deny the fact that that would definitely a big step for us towards resolving it right? Plus, those are just some factors that contributes to climate change--more major factors include the emissions from air travel, usage of fossil fuels, oil spills, etc. However, without the widespread knowledge that climate change though cliche, but still remains to be important in this world, no action would be taken at all.

Just because we don't experience climate injustice doesn't mean that it is not a significant issue? Just like how we have discussed in the last article, climate injustice is already affecting hundreds of millions of people, so perhaps "now" is the answer when one questions "when".

仅仅因为我们没有经历气候不公正并不意味着它不是一个重大问题？就像我们在上一篇文章中讨论的那样，气候不公正已经影响了数亿人，所以当人们质疑“何时”时，也许“现在”就是答案。
