SCHOOL UNIFORMS ARE OUTDATED

First, we need to get the context clear: I went to a school that does not have school uniforms of any sort from first to the end of the first semester of eighth grade, and now I am studying at a British school, which means school uniforms are mandatory for me every single day. I, have a lot of opinions on this. This is because I do not think that our society is still at an era where wearing the same type of clothing everyday is necessary to make us focused in class, have the unhealthy comparison many people think would happen between students, and make the school seem more "professional".
I wrote a speech of this topic that I intended to make to the whole school, but this idea got rejected by a teacher, saying that that would make the other students (and me) start an uproar in the school on school uniforms and eventually make school more chaotic. However, because we are not at school right now, below is the speech I want to make (not just to the school, but to the ENTIRE WORLD):
Show of hands--how many of you think wearing school uniforms makes you feel rigid, uncomfortable, and is simply useless?
We, as pupils of the 21st century, no longer need uniforms to keep us concentrated and on track in school. We are in an era where humans are able to learn, grow, and develop as lifelong learners without being attacked physically, both from the violence of teachers and clothing. History is history. Humans evolve. And we, as people who have made wonder inventions since the 16th century, should evolve with it. It is stubborn, tempting, and simply immoral for schools to require students to wear uniforms to school every day. I am here to fight for the basic human rights for students, to advocate for democracy, to make school a simply more enjoyable and comfortable space for all.
Rules are rules. Sure. But who made the rules? Don't they get outdated? Isn't it our duty as humans in the modern world to adapt rules to our state of being now? Just like how Thomas Jefferson said: "I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind." We should keep certain rules alive, but let the others die because the truth of our society has changed. Just like how Galileo Galilei proved people wrong on how Earth orbits the Sun and not the Sun that orbits the Earth, I am here to prove that our traditional beliefs about school is wrong and a new set of beliefs should be implemented. It is the school that orbits around its students, and not the students that should orbit around the school.
We are frozen in time with uniforms on our shoulders, so how do we unfreeze and move on? The sense of community and compassion for each other as a community in a school lies in our heart, and simply wearing school uniforms does not mean anything. Bullying, harassment, and exclusion still exist within a school that requires uniforms. A dark motive is a dark motive. Regardless of the outfit it is hidden in. Everyone should be able to express themselves and their uniqueness and their love for each other not through what they wear, but through their words of genuine care and fellowship for their peers. We are a school with traditions that have been existent for hundreds of years, as more schools provide pupils with the opportunity to showcase their own identity through their daily choices, shouldn't we do the same? This is not only about personal expression, but also about seeing each and every one student through a deeper perspective. We could not only know people through unique choices that they make, but also see who is the real culprit when one is unable and too afraid to speak up for their own rights and safety.
I will be handing out petitions around school and if you believe that there should be a change made to the uniform policy, please sign it and help school become a better setting once and for all. Further actions on banning uniforms and requirements on students' appearances at school will be discussed if you are willing to sign the petition and support this movement.
Thank you.
That was the speech I wanted to make to the school, and when I say "students' external appearances", I not only mean uniforms, but also the rules that states:
No makeup
No nail varnish
No hair should be dyed
Hair below shoulder length should be tied or cut
No e-watches
No phones
No computers or iPads for students below G9
Yes I added more rules on here but, my point is, there is a need for a revolution. What do you think?
