Life Isn't Defined

I was talking to my math teacher about what he did before becoming a teacher and I was stunned. I did not expect someone could have the perseverance and discipline to change their fate so quickly. My math teacher dropped out of school at 15, because he left hoe at 15. He then realized that he needed to improve his grades and diploma so he self-taught IGCSE and A Levels, and then went to college all by himself, and then started to teach students in college as a “part-time job”, which he did every day, then he kept on doing it, then he pursued the career path of education. In terms of his personal life, he was divorced twice and he realized for himself that he is definitely not the type of person who can get married on day and stay that way. His story really stunned me because for someone to have the discipline and the determination to get back up again from dropping out of school and receiving qualifications to then live independently is incredibly inspiring.

This made me more confident in terms of how much every choice we are making in our lives matter. One choice of getting up one day and studying to get one step closer to that goal will not only give us more opportunities in the future, but also give us the skills that we need as we mature. This may sound cliche and “inspirational”, but his story shows how it is never too late to start again. He was 22 when he did his IGCSE and A Level exams, which may seem so much later than other people, but he was able to achieve the same results as others with himself. Perhaps it is also time for me to start getting on with my other tasks on my to-do list then…
